Styrene block copolymers mainly include SBS, SIS, SEBS, etc., widely used in adhesives, asphalt modification, plastic modification and other fields. SBS and SIS show their unique advantages in different application fields, while their own characteristics also limit their application. Hence, people are trying to find a combination of these two properties of the product. Kraton Corporation, Zeon and others have developed a new styrene-like block copolymer with SBS and SIS properties, Styrene-isoprene/butadiene-styrene (SIBS), which is characterized by intermediate blocks combining random copolymerized isoprene and butadiene monomer units. According to Kraton, the new SIBS have some unique properties. The intermediate mixed block degradation mechanism is double, namely chain break and cross linking mechanism, which improves its stability. The glass transition temperature of the intermediate mixed block is low, which is generally lower than SIS, and the thermal stability is better than SIS and SBS, and it has good compatibility with SIS and SBS. At present, Kraton has launched a number of SIBS brands, such as MD6455, MD6460, EDF8861 and so on.
